Come Read the Gospel with Me

 Gospel of the Day

Today we will be reading in Matthew 2:13-18 as follows:

And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt: And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son. Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men. Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying, In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.

God's warnings are protections for you. Jesus being just brought into this world and already someone seeking to destroy him. God warns Joseph to take Jesus and Mary out of Bethlehem and into Egypt for a time. During that time, King Herod is angry with the wise men did not return unto him and orders that all the male babies and children aged 2 and under be killed. It was not Jesus' time to die just yet. It is clear to me that all of us are born into a sinful world and our destruction is constantly coming after us. The enemy went to work right away after Jesus' birth but he was not successful in killing the son of God. Thank God for his protection and thankful for God fearing parents like Joseph and obeying God when he was warned.

Thank you for reading with me today. I hope you'll check out more on my blog and find something interesting.
