The Unplanned Ride

This poem is written in memory of the day we lost our home to a tornado on February 5, 2008. I was 13 years old when I wrote this poem.

The Unplanned Ride

Sitting in my living room, the night so calm. Thinking nothing bad would happen then sweat dripped from my palms. We put on our shoes seeking for the door. Then we heard the roaring noise and dropped right to the floor. As we cried to the Lord the house started to tumble. We found ourselves on the ceiling with everything all crumbled. As we lay there under furniture still calling out to God, thanking Him for everything and keeping us alive. If it wasn't for His grace, we wouldn't be here today. We might be in another world lost and gone astray. He brought me through a disaster but left me with the pain. My body so sore, my thoughts never the same. Who am I to talk to? Who am I to blame? He threw us in the air and tossed us to the side. He helped us make it through the night and took us on an unplanned ride.
